About Us

Hello everyone! First of all, thank you for visiting our website and showing interest in our society! We hope you’ll read up on what we are all about and hopefully it will interest you to come and join our family!

Northumbria Musical Theatre Society was founded in 2008, making this the 17th year of NMTS! Every year, we put on a variety of shows, including a winter gala comprising of various musical theatre songs, a charity fundraiser where our talented members select songs they want to perform, as well as a big musical in the spring, to name a few! Previously, the society has performed musicals such as Footloose, Into the Woods, High School Musical, Carrie, Legally Blonde, and most recently, Grease in 2025. The society is run entirely by a student-led committee, who volunteer their time alongside their studies.

Our committee for 2025/26 is: Richard Gardner (President), Chris Smith (Vice-President), Flora Buxton (Secretary), Isabelle Tennant (Treasurer), Maddy Hughes (Marketing Officer), Daniel Yellow (Social Secretary), Grace Robinson (Musical Director), Faith Naughton & Kristen Barnard (Choreographers)

Musical Theatre Society is a sociable and inclusive society which we pride ourselves on! As well as the performances, we also have a huge social side! We have something for everyone, from film nights, theatre trips and group meals, to themed and non-themed nights out across the city, we are sure you will find something to do with us!

We are a super friendly group of people. Everyone who is part of our family has a love of putting on some amazing performances as well as smiling and laughing the whole way along! We pride ourselves on how welcoming we are and how we make each individual feel a part of a society and work on the things they want to work on. Whether you are wanting to improve a song, try and learn more about musicals or simply make friends and feel part of a group we can offer all of that for you!

You can sign up to be a member of Musical Theatre on the Northumbria Students’ Union website, or visit the desk on the ground floor of the SU! Memberships for Northumbria students are £6, and associate memberships are currently £7! We hope to see many of you very soon!
